PHYSICAL THERAPY

PHYSICAL THERAPY EVALUATION

Our physical therapist begins treatment by conducting a thorough background history of your injury and how it affects your life, reviewing your general health and activity level, and discussing your goals for therapy. Your therapist then evaluates the area of your body involved to determine the exact nature of your injury and what issues or factors may have contributed to it. This evaluation may include mobility assessment, strength assessment, neurological testing, joint mobility assessment, and other tests.

TOOLS NEEDED TO ENHANCE TREATMENT

Following the evaluation, your therapist provides treatment aimed at the source of your injury. Treatment varies based on the injury, but generally includes hands-on care to improve mobility and strength, education on posture and other factors, and exercises designed specifically to help you overcome your injury. Various modalities (ultrasound, light therapy, electrical stimulation,  whole body vibration, heat, ice, etc.) may be utilized to increase tissue mobility, reduce pain, reduce swelling, and maximize the benefits of treatment.

ONE - ON - ONE TREATMENT WITH A PT

You will get the personal attention from the Physical Therapist for the entire time that you spend doing your physical therapy.  He works with only one patient at a time and does not hand you off to an assistant to supervise your activities. This level of service is hard to find in todays marketplace.

FLOATATION THERAPY

Aqua Therapy Clinics, has devised a unique recovery and performance treatment plan built upon flotation therapy. Isolation tanks have been used for decades as a form of alternative medicine. The therapeutic effects of salt water and sensory deprivation create an exceptionally potent duo to force the body and mind into a state of relaxation and rehabilitation.

FLOATATION THERAPY

HOW IT WORKS

Scientists estimate that up to 90% of the brain's normal workload is caused by the effects of routine environmental stimulation the combined effects of gravity, temperature, touch, light and sound on the muscles, nervous system and sense organs of the body.

Each of the 4 rooms were designed to screen out external physical stimuli, creating a pure state of "sensory" relaxation. Under these unique conditions, your body has a chance to restore its natural powers of self-regulation, while you simply lie back and rediscover the latent abilities of a deeply relaxed mind.

The temperature inside the pod is kept at a constant 93.6 degrees F - relaxed skin temperature. As a result, the nerve endings which cover the surface of the skin no longer perceive any sense of separation between the skin and the silky mineral solution which surrounds it.

In the dark, weightless tranquility of the room, the boundaries of your body seem to dissolve and vanish. As you enter progressively deeper levels of relaxation, even your body seems to "disappear" from conscious awareness because of the sharp reduction in signals being transmitted through the nervous system to the brain. Now your brain can now concentrate on your body, what is not properly functioning and what care is needed.

Free from all external stimulation, your brain can allow your body to achieve a state of relaxation (which is deeper, purer and more beneficial than sleep) and rehabilitation.

The sudden de-stimulation of large areas of the nervous system triggers a spontaneous chain reaction throughout the body known as the parasympathetic response. Muscle tension, blood pressure, heart rate and oxygen consumption all drop dramatically. The whole chemistry of the body changes.

Blood vessels including capillaries dilate, improving cardio-vascular efficiency and increasing the supply of oxygen and nutrients to every single cell in your body. This is called the vasodilatory effect.

Stress related chemicals such as adrenaline, cortisol, ACTH and lactate are removed from the bloodstream and replaced by beneficial endorphins. High levels of cortisol and ACTH are known to weaken the body's immune system and create feelings of depression, while lower baseline levels are associated with feelings of confidence.

These biochemical changes occur naturally and spontaneously as by-products of deep sensory relaxation. No extra tools or techniques are required. Just lie back and let it happen naturally.

THE BENEFITS

  • FLOATATION THERAPY is selected in conditions when a prominent feature of the clinical findings include moderate to severe chronic spasticity due to central nervous system lesions.
  • FLOATATION THERAPY is used to treat injuries and aid in the rehabilitation of the patient.
  • FLOATATION THERAPY is especially useful in the treatment of patients with chronic multiple joint disorders.
  • FLOATATION THERAPY is used for joint mobilization, in treatment of muscle spasm, in progressive resistive exercise training and in the treatment of patients with arthritis.

Our patients undergo passive and active range of motion treatment while under our care.  Several factors contribute to the effectiveness of hydrotherapy.

  1. The warm water creates a relaxing environment, which helps to reflexively decrease muscle spasm and decrease discomfort.
  2. The water’s heat benefits weakened or painful muscles or joints with limited active range of motion.
  3. The buoyancy of the water helps to support the trunk and limb, and decrease gravitational forces allowing easier active range of motion in gravity-eliminated postures.
  4. The density of the water also creates resistance for low-level, active-resistance exercise training.
